Where did May go?

Image
I had so much I wanted to get done this month...and with only 5 days left, I'm sure I won't get it all done, but I think I only need one more week! I made two dresses for Carolyn (The twins will each get one like it, but I just started today...) We finished basketball (and Seth got yet another trophy). We had a picnic to 'celebrate' afterwards. Seth proved that he will probably grow up to be smarter than all of us - and proved it again the next day by duplicating his success. (This puzzle is such a pain to put the 9 pieces together! I told him I'd try to help him later...so he just did it by himself in less time than it took me to even make an attempt!) Natalie has asked me to put more pigtails in her hair (ponytails on the side she calls them...makes more sense to me!) And we packed up so much...I was going to pack up these, but then thought I might need them around again before the house sells! And I finally finished the quilt I sta...

Conversation in the Van

So, here's a little conversation I had with Carolyn in the van. I nearly fell off the couch laughing trying to tell Jared and Kristen...you really need to hear Carolyn's tone of voice, but this will have to do: Carolyn: Mom, What would you do if you were a raindrop? (I'm thinking, 'um, fall to the ground and disappear'...not really getting the question) Beth: I don't know. What would you do? Carolyn: I would just sit in the cloud and relax. NOW, do you know what you would do? Beth: Probably fall to the ground. Carolyn: No, I think you would fall on a dump truck and slip right off. What exactly is she saying??!!

Past weekend

Image
Chloe - my newest neice - she was blessed on Sunday (this was Saturday night) Grandma and Gramps came in town. Kaitlyn had to try on her glasses. Natalie had to check her ears. Friday night Seth went to his first sleepover at his friend's house. We brought his friend's little sister back home, and Carolyn had her first friend come sleepover. (I'm pretty sure we got the better end of the deal!) Seth has learned to give the twins piggyback rides. He's also learning other new tricks. (He wants to walk on his hands, but I'm thinking, maybe he should just consider break dancing instead?)

Last Saturday of April

Image
Rob's sister came home for the weekend (between BYU semesters), so we went up to visit while she and her roommate were in SC. Here are some pictures: I finally took a family picture (actually, Chelsea, the roommate took it, but it was my idea). The twins got as wet and messy as they could Carolyn has a love for nature and gardening (I wish I was better at it to teach her). Seth aided the twins in their quest for mess. It was fun and we got the yearly flower garden planted...Rob of course, did most of the work.

kitties

My twins have started being 'kitties'. (Carolyn went through this phase when she was almost this age...remember the vacation to the mountains family?) See video for twins example (yes, Carolyn had to join in). So, yesterday Kaitlyn started pretending to be a kitty at my brother's house (we were visiting my sister-in-law Kristen and my neice Chloe...so cute!)  Carolyn rebuked her, "NO! Jared is allergic to cats!" (pictures from our weekend visit soon to come...)

She thinks she's grown.

We had just gotten back from a few fast days at my parents and a few fast days of painting (see the shelf in the background still not up?) and I was tired and had piles and piles of laundry and other chores.... So Carolyn decides to help herself to a BIG bowl of cereal (that's our halloween candy bowl that was not put away from painting). There ended up more mess with little wet cheerios stuck all over the kitchen floor.

Spring Break

Image
These are all from the time we got down to Mom and Dad's after the painting was done. (And they're not in the right order b/c Blogger reverses each upload set and  I don't feel like fixing it today.) Seth drew "squares" on the ground and designated one for each of them. Carolyn only permitted Grammy into her square. (And scared the snot out of Kaitlyn when she entered!) Kaitlyn The boys went miniature golfing. Carolyn and Seth took turns being 'buried'. I think Dad just looks so serious in this picture. It makes me laugh. The girls all HAD to put on makeup with Grammy each morning.  (Carolyn wore more makeup there than I did.)

Backseat Singing

One of the twins' favorite songs right now is "Wheels on the Bus"...so I hear often in the van: ^^^^ will represent jibberish they use to fill in "wheels a bus a round a round, round a round, round a round ^^^^ all ^^ town" "^^ babies ^^^ wah wah wah, wah wah wah, wah wah wah^^^ all ^^ town" and yesterday I heard a new verse from Kaitlyn: "^^^ potty go pee pee pee, pee pee pee, pee pee pee ^^^^ potty ^^ flush flush flush" I really hope she wasn't going potty on the bus all over town! (I'm sure my brothers can appreciate this new verse!)

Our Spring Break Project

Image
This was our wall...except for the writing before painting. Rob started making a to-do list of stuff we need to make the house marketable (with chalk)...so the kids joined in. (The white spots are where we removed a shelf and had to patch the screw holes.) Rob had to patch nicks, holes, cracks, etc all over the walls! The kids went to my parents for Spring Break...and we were left to paint - the den/kitchen & the hallway (never been painted). David is not known for his painting skills, but we let him help us prime (and we needed the help too! It took about three coats of prime on each wall in the den and kitchen!) Rob dealing with the blasted blue walls...I love bold colors, but I think I may supress my desire in the future - they were awful to prime over! Will came up with a way to do the high spots...scaring you yet Mom? Don't worry - we're done and he's alive still. (Man, I hope our "next house" does not have high ceilings...why do people want them?) Sorry,...

Names

A conversation on the way home from school: Seth: [something about his friend Elijah] Carolyn: Is Elijah a girl name? It's pretty. Beth: No. It's actually a boy name from the Bible; a prophet in the Bible. Seth: Then it's a boy name! Is Obama a girl name? Beth: No, it's the last name of our president. He has a wife and her last name is Obama too. and I think they have two little girls and their last name is Obama too. So it's not a boy name or a girl name. It's a last name. Kids: Oh. Beth: His first name is Barak. Seth: Barak? Carolyn: Eww. That's a nasty name!  This is not the first 'boy name' 'girl name' conversation the kids have had.  They're very interested these days in what is for boys and what is for girls and what is ok for both. She's quite opinionated. Where does she get that from??

Potty Training? Nope

Image
A picture is worth 1000 words.... but in case you want more, here are 134 more: I was letting the girls play on the front porch area while I was inside...straightening a little, but mostly just standing at the door b/c I have to watch them...(I still dream of a house with a backdoor and a fence in the backyard...or at least the back door so I can buy a fence!) ... Anyways, I was getting the den/hall bath straightened, and sat this little potty chair outside. Kaitlyn never uses it and Natalie isn't yet potty training, so I'm keeping it in the van for those emergency-in-the-school-line-moments while Kaitlyn is potty training.  When I went back to the door, I found Natalie had stripped her diaper and was sitting there on the front porch practicing ‘using’ the potty! I just HAD to take a picture before I corrected the situation!

And so the day begins!

As I'm helping Natalie peel stickers off the blanket chest "Natalie, stickers only go on paper," Kaitlyn walks in and says "lip gloss". Little does she know that RoseArt does not make lipgloss!

Carolyn's quote of the day.

You may have to have some LDS knowledge to get this... We were reading in the Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi, ch.9 about Nephi making two sets of plates by way of commandment of the Lord.   (It is for a wise purpose which is unknown to Nephi.)   And how he engraves (that was interesting to explain "engrave")   on them two different types of records (ministry/historical)   so I asked (reviewing), why did Nephi make two sets of plates. I wanted to hear, "He doesn't know." or "For a wise purpose."   Carolyn said, "Because he didn't have any paper!"

My (not so new) haircut

Image
I told my aunt I got my hair cut (on my birthday) and she said I should post a picture...so a month late (on my brother's birthday), I'm finally posting it! I like it better curled, but honestly...I don't have the umph! to curl it every day (mostly just Sundays I do). And it usually doesn't look this good straight...I waited for a good hair day. (I think I'll try a different place next time I go for layers.) It's alright...and it still fits in a ponytail which is, of course, my main issue with hair.
