Temple Visit 4.27.2013

Image
I love to see the temple. I'm going there someday to feel the Holy Spirit to listen and to pray For the temple is a House of God, a place of love and beauty. I'll prepare myself while I am young. This is my sacred duty. I love to see the temple. I'll go inside someday. I'll covenant with my Father. I'll promise to obey. For the temple is a Holy Place where we are sealed together, As a child of God, I've learned this truth, A family is forever.* *Lyrics, "I Love to See the Temple" by Janice Kapp Perry, Children's Songbook, page 95

Dying eggs...2 weeks and 4 days after Easter

Image
Life was crazy this year with our house projects, so I put off some non-necessary traditions (the fluff - like dying eggs) - and I said I'd do them later. And we did. at least that one. I won't pack up the plastic eggs until I have hidden them outside for an egg hunt. Seth helped me boil the eggs - then ate one, then went next door to play with a friend - so much for family activity! our blank canvas Mixing the dye - vinegar, food coloring, and boiling water - that was so easy! I noticed on the food coloring box last time I bought some it had egg dying instructions - how had I never noticed that? Forget those little tablets they sell around Easter. This is easier and more 'real'. And we can make different color combinations than the standard tablet options. And we like to measure, mix, and pour Turns out markers, like crayons will keep the dye from coloring a part of the egg, but (being washable) it doesn't really stay like cr...

Children are expensive

Bailey Medical Record: Seth updated his braces - yellow for the month of May. (Next time I have been forewarned to give him tylenol before I come and that he will be getting some kind of appliance the nurse couldn't even describe to me because she hadn't seen one before - the orthodontist would be putting it in - of course.) Carolyn - things were a little fuzzy, but not all the time - so I took her in and she needs glasses - but only for certain things (boardwork, tv, computer, long distance, ...probably driving one day) - At first she was embarrassed by the thought of her friends seeing her in glasses, but I talked it up - because, oh my goodness isn't she cute in them? and the day we went to pick them up, she wanted to wear them all day - even when she didn't have to. She keeps saying, wow, that's clear - I didn't know it was fuzzy before, but now when I take my glasses off it looks fuzzy. (Guess the world is clearer than she knew.) :) And last...

I'm the baby

Yeah, she gets all kind of privileges (like bringing a riding toy inside) And she's so cute to have conversation with...and she's usually very logical when she's being...well, not being cute. :) Conversations from 4/22/13 in the van: Alee said,  "My finger hurts."     [Do you want me to blow it a kiss or give it a real kiss when we get home?] "But it'll still hurt." a few minutes later, "Kaitlyn and Natalie can kiss it when they get home."          [Will that make it feel better?] "Yes." another few minutes later, "Mom, you see that red car out your window?"       (red convertible - I explained what convertible meant.) "I want one of those for my birthday."        [You want a lot for your birthday] "I want a pony and a pillow and a convertible."        (and last month a baby alive doll and a violin and at one point a real baby) "When will I be a big ki...

"Aaron's Garden" 2013

Image
The very next weekend after spring break, we went upstate to celebrate Grandpa's birthday and for our annual garden day with Memere/Grandpa. I'm not really good with growing things (other than children), so I have found my place is behind the camera - although this year I COULD tell between the weeds and the plants (in previous years I have tried to evict perennials from the garden - those are the ones that come back, right? - thinking they were weeds leftover from the winter). Rob pretty much knows what to do with the plants, (and his brother in law Caleb seemed to know what to do too) Carolyn LOVES the entire process, and Kaitlyn is terrified there might be something alive in the dirt. (Can you blame her? my little clean hand princess) :) Rob's sister and her family were there too since they have moved down to SC, so there was plenty of family time...and water time...and no one turns that down! :) Alee is thinking of being ok with having a young...

Spring Break 2013

Image
I think we overloaded it just a little this year :) but  not intentionally... Our flooring project ended up scheduled during spring break - here's a sneak peak (I'll post about our changes later when the decorating is done) At least they had fun while we worked.  Finally, we got to mom's...and it was not SPRING weather for SPRINGbreak. drat. So we 'chilled' at the park and the outlets and at home. Alee has a discussion over the phone with Uncle Jacob about her feelings concerning his most recent nickname attempt. (Condensed version: She prefers "lollipop", not "little smear".) We fed some ducks... OK, maybe 'someone' ate some of the stale defrosted bread for themselves...but just a bite! Grammy took the camera so we have photographic proof that I was there. (I'm trying to show up in some of our pictures on here...I'm terrible about always wanting to take the pictures and therefore, never ...
