Back to School

Image
School started today (whether we were ready or not)...we mostly were ready. August was mostly work - finishing up projects we started over the summer so that we could be free of them for the school year, starting schoolwork (for Carolyn), and work at dealing with a toddler who is ever-changing. The dining room table refinish was complete, and the table came in to acclimatize. The girls were instructed to put up some streamers to block the room (as a reminder) not to use it for 24 hours. This is what remains after Gideon testing his "breaking through the finish line" run. It looks good. (Seth and Alee helped a little, but this was mostly all Rob.) Gideon is back to needing to be rocked to sleep since the conversion from crib to bed. He screams if we try to leave him in the bed asleep. He also wakes up in the middle of the night or early (like before 6 am) the next morning to join us in our bed. Some nights he won't even let us rock him, and he just sc...

Gideon and Seth - from crib to car

Gideon quotes: "My tablet needs to charge" - from a modern age 2-year-old "Need ice pack" - every injury needs an ice pack "I can't find blue phone" - (which in fact is still missing - it's not his but he thinks it is)           It's an old phone of ours that is out of date and had small issues, but we kept it to use as "kid phone" or "family phone." Gideon uses it to watch PBS kids. We have an identical one that is black that we are still using. "I'm sleepy Mommy" - it's nice when he admits it; it'd be nicer if he'd just lie down and go to sleep! "It smells look poopy in here" - My 2nd favorite quote of this round! (Gideon told to Rob in new office... Gideon had a lump in his shorts. Guess who was causing the poopy smell?) "All mine" - Gideon said as he hugged the entire box of goldfish. No...well, not until he spilled the entire box on the floor 2 days later. Yep, now i...

Summer is winding down and heating up

This summer has been a summer of getting things done, and the one I've worked on most is trying to rearrange and declutter the house. Here's our new "office" - which used to be the storeroom (2nd pantry). It's tiny, but the computer is no longer cluttering up the den corner. Seth has been working on his art skills. He's been doing a drawing class we got online from udemy. He'll do more drawing and painting classes this year. He wanted animation, but that wasn't available through any school option. (We have one of those from udemy also  that he can do on his own.)  These 2 just want to play. Finished library levels for coupons. Gideon was easy - I read about 15 minutes before nap and another 15 minutes at bedtime daily. (Alee had a little more trouble getting her minutes in since I left most of her reading to her to complete - audiobooks count - but she is not a big reader. She finally finished last week.)  Seth got braces. Becau...
