Just another day in the Bailey house

Definition please? A while back we used the word "Epitome" and the kids asked what it meant. If you don't know this word, it rhymes with (and has the same meter as) "give it to me". Carolyn and Seth immediately started asking their phones what epitome means. Carolyn kept getting irritated that her phone misunderstood her and was hearing the wrong word. After about 5 to 10 times, she griped that it kept bringing up "epitome" (pronounce it to rhyme with garden gnome). This was funny enough and we all laughed at the mistake. A few nights ago, Rob commented on something about the kids, using the word epitome, and then repeated it but pronouncing it phonetically. It's now a family joke. Labor day at Pine Island We got together with Rob's family on labor day. We had a picnic, let the kids play in the sand, and swam in the pool. (It was the last day the pool was open for the season.) He's so cute, we could eat him up!  (What a weird...

Yes this is totally one of those brag on my kids post. :-) Alee has been working on behavior with an incentive base system... In other words, if she behaves well, she earns something. (It's slightly backwards because she actually loses something she doesn't yet have but whatever... Close enough!) This idea was inspired by mom. Alee starts off the day with the prospect of getting 10 m&m's at lunch. When she misbehaves she loses one. She usually gets about seven average. A few days ago she got all ten. This Friday she went down to her lowest yet-five. She likes to report to Rob at night how many she got at lunch that day. Sometimes she reports with phrases like, "I lost my thumb because I ran away in the store." Or "I got six m&m's because I was bad a lot." Two Sundays ago I had left a box of honey buns on the table as a treat for the kids that they could help themselves to-they know only one each. Alee came to me as I was abo...

I love Fall & Family

Image
We have had "fall" weather for the past few days. Rob just informed me today that fall officially began (I think) at 11:44 am? today.  Fall is my FAVORITE season! This picture is one I took while we were driving up the interstate to Ohio at the end of October last year. Aren't the colors beautiful? Some reasons I love fall, in no particular order: (some of these are childhood memories) Carolina football games with Dad and my friend Haley (sp?) SC State Fair School Starting (yes, I have always like starting...it's the projects 2 weeks later I didn't like) the cool weather after the oppressive summer My first 2 children were born in the fall (and the most "fun" part of my twin pregnancy was during the fall - that would be the part when everyone knew I was pregnant but I wasn't too fat to get off the bed without ROLLING off the bed!) Thanksgiving at MaMa's It's my most productive "project season" Halloween Apple...

From the little perspective

What's for Dinner? Hopefully not beef! Here are some funny quotes that I actually took the time to write down: Seth: (staring at the hamburger helper on his plate) "Is this yucky stuff all you have?" During the same meal, Carolyn said, "I don't like meat." Rob told her that is was just like the meat in hamburgers and she liked those (not really). She said, "I haven't taste hamboogers before." (grumpy voice) [I don't normally make it, but we had a box on the food shelves the babies had pretty much mutilated, so I had to eat it before they tore the thing apart.] We had pasta bake with garlic bread a few weeks ago, and I had put parsley on the bread slices. Carolyn said annoyedly, "Why is there salad on my bread?!" (My mom who was in town for the night wondered with her...why did Mommy put salad on ALL the bread. The reason...b/c this mommy is too lazy to make 4 different versions of the same meal. They can pick whatever it is of...

Made me chuckle

My favorite mispronounced words: Seth's - renember, as in "I can't renember" Carolyn's - basquetti, as in "I like cheese on my basquetti, and I don't like meatballs." Kaitlyn and Natalie mispronounce everything, so I don't have a favorite yet, although I do chuckle everytime Natalie says "Sit"...I'll leave that to your imagination. Quotes from dealing with Carolyn: She was pretending her sisters were hamsters and wanting to put them in boxes (chairs at the table). Beth: Your baby sisters are not hamsters. Carolyn: But I like hamsters. Beth: I do too...kind of, but Your baby sisters are not hamsters. They are people. Carolyn: But I don't like people. I was telling her to go to the potty for the first time of the day (this is always the most challenging one, although almost everytime I tell her to go to the potty is a battle). Beth: It's time to go to the potty. Carolyn: IT'S NOT ON MY LIST! (Beth: Well, it's on MINE!)...

Park and Potty, among other things

Kaitlyn likes to squish Natalie (they both can tackle and squish each other). They think it's funny. OK, Not funny anymore; get off, Natalie says! Kaitlyn's favorite position lately (we have to restrain Carolyn from 'helping' her 'finish the somersault', which is what the big kids think she's doing). Carolyn wraps up her babies and kitties in her silky and then tells the rest of us to be quiet b/c one of them is napping. (She put one in Natalie's crib the other day and then got mad at me when I left it in there during Natalie's nap. Because, she said, it was time for the doll's ballet class and she didn't want to take a nap anymore; she was done and she was crying - the doll that is!) Poor Natalie - Carolyn jerked the stroller away to "show" Natalie how to properly strap in a baby. Natalie just took it and stood there and watched her! (Normally she screams and they yank the thing back and forth and I have to break it up be...

My REAL first post

Image
Rob said I wrote the post and he posts them. Actually, the first post Rob even wrote for me (so I did neither the writing nor the posting)...I only edited it and took out sentences I really didn't like and said ok to the rest. Also, I know how to post and do most things on the computer. I'm just lazy and I know he knows how, so I let him. :) Rob just asked me what I was 'blogging' (what a silly-sounding word...yes, I know where it comes from). Kaitlyn can sit up really well now. I tried to sit up both twins and get a picture, but Natalie's really unstable and falls. Once I finally got her stable, she reached over and pulled Kaitlyn's shirt and pulled her over. Nuts! I'll post a picture anyways. Natalie plays very well by herself for good periods of time. How nice! :) Kaitlyn and Natalie (Natalie can finally fit in some 3-6 mos clothes and now Kaitlyn's starting to get too big for them!) Natalie and Kaitlyn (This is the only one where they were both looki...
