Fall Fun 2018
It has been over a month since my last post. Gideon has grown so much, and everyone has gotten into the swing of things around the school year.
Gideon sleeps in his crib for naps and bedtime now. (We hold him to sleep at night, but for naps, we read to him, sometimes sing to him, and then put him down. If he cries more than 30 seconds, I know he isn't ready and I need to try again. That is not common though.)
He has been having a rough teething week (those back molars must be killing his gums!), and I was happy he slept through the night again last night.
He says SO many words and also signs quite a few words. If I don't understand (like this morning, he was concerned about something, but I didn't get what he was saying), he will try to show me. (This morning it was "vacuum" he wanted to say. He developed a fear of the vacuum around a year old and gets very nervous about me using it.)
He often goes down for a nap in the morning and sleeps several hours. (He was going down morning and again after school, but he seems to prefer to go down earlier, eat a late lunch, and then not bother with nap after school.) I liked the two naps so that I could read with Alee without Gideon's jealous whining, but I like the one long nap because I can get things done.
He loves Daniel Tiger and asks to watch quite a lot more than we let him. ("Tigey" or "Tiga" = tiger, "Mo mo" = movie)
And OH BOY is he a climber...and he's learning to run. (These two things have led to more bumps, a few bruises, and his first skinned knee.) Boys!
He loves cars and trains and guitars and BOOKS!
Here are some pictures of him and the other so you know we have 5 other children too! :)
We finally are starting to find some organization around here again! We have a menu - after almost 2 years of not having one.
The twins got to dance in the Okra Strut parade as baton twirlers. We had fun, but the morning coolness burned off fast.
They were very red-faced by the end of the parade.
Rob and Seth got to do a day's work to help some clean up efforts down at the beach. I'm glad some others near Seth's age went too.
They brought back prizes from Grammy (a new shirt for each girl and some hand-me-down fancies from Grammy's closet purge - like this very sparkly purse that matches Kaitlyn's high heels.)
Our weather has been changing, and we had a really gorgeous sky one morning. (As if we aren't already running late, we HAD to make time to go out and observe.)
I love school spirit days; my kids get into participating. It was character dress-up day at the high school.
(In case you can't tell who he is, he is Frodo Baggins from Lord of the Rings. Being a lot shorter and having hairy feet would have helped you guess, I'm sure!)
For Halloween, he is going to be a gnome. (I tried to convince him to wear a fake beard, but he said no thanks.) :)
I have started teaching piano lessons (to kids that aren't mine...I've been teaching my kids for 10 years now). I started with our siblings kids over the summer, and started with 1 student this fall.
(Yes, just one; it's all I have time for. I'm testing this year to see if I'd like to take on this as a real job and teach lessons to more once Gideon is bigger. And so far, I really enjoy it. We'll add this goal to the 5-year plan.)
Gideon (much to Alee's annoyance) takes the barbie car all the time. What makes me laugh is how he uses it. :) (He also breaks off the windshield regularly, so I can see why she doesn't like to share it.)
Note the additional passengers in the stroller with the baby. :)
As I was fixing Alee's hair one morning, I found this!
The story? It went something like this:
Well there was a piece of hair aggravating me on my neck and I didn't want to do my bun AGAIN so I just CUT it off!
sigh...
Natalie got an award for a perfect score (end of last year testing) on one of the state standards tests. It was math. (That's my girl!)
Now time for more school spirit days!
Team spirit day at elementary school: (Go gamecocks!)
And Pajama Day at the middle school
(Today is 80's day at the elementary school for red ribbon week; I purge too much to have things that work for some themes.)
Gideon always surprises me at his smart things. I told him to bring me the drum and I'd play with him. After I beat it a few times with my hands, he left the room and came back with a drumstick from the music shelves in the den. I guess he'd seen us use that for making music and he felt a drum needed a drum stick. He loves music (and noise).
Say goodbye to those shoes. He has outgrown size 4 in shoes and is now in size 5. (Unfortunately, he is slightly afraid of the monkey shoes I bought on clearance a few months ago, so I may have to go shopping again.) He's also moving into size 5 diapers this month.
Saturday while my brother's family was in town, we had some fall fun with pumpkins.
They specifically wanted to go to a pumpkin patch, so we went to a local church (instead of the grocery store) to pick out the pumpkins.
Some got to work right away. (Seth and Carolyn aren't finished.)
We have really enjoyed the cooler temperatures over the past week. Gideon has even tried out the playset (makes me so nervous!)
(The disc swing broke :( so we moved the thing that looks like a punching bag to its spot to swing from instead. It works and they like it. Definitely more of a big kid thing now - you have to jump to get on it!)
Even overtired and exhausted, he is determined to feed himself. (He's just started doing that in the past week.)
Our pumpkins so far:
The twins are working on the elephant together and need blue pipe cleaners for the trunk to spout out water. Carolyn's is half finished at the back right (plus the gold one). Alee is the gold one with black doors and windows; it's Cinderella's carriage. Seth's is not even started.
The two on the left that are painted were done by my niece and nephew.
Rob is half way through semester one of grad school; his midterm is tomorrow. (Pray for him; it's been years since he's had to take a test!)
The kids are preparing for concerts and science projects and talent show auditions, and I am supposed to be finishing up costumes this week. At least with Gideon's nap schedule, it keeps life pretty calm during the day so I don't feel too busy even with all the evenings and weekends can bring.
