Summer Vacation week 2
Well, I obviously didn't get my goal of posting every Tuesday (as it is now Thursday). I did have time (sort of). I just forgot that I started a new weekly task...
Sooo...here's our week-and then some!
Wednesday - Early park (8am) followed by summer $1 movie at the cinema (Annie at 10 am) followed by water....Oh, yeah, and Carolyn had a friend spend the night Tuesday night so I had 6 for the day
Alee was exhausted and ran a little fever for the next 24 hours. (short bug? over exertion? who knows, but she was fine by the weekend) Thankfully, Carolyn was selfish with her friend, so there was little contact there.
Thursday - we went to visit one of my husband's aunts that lives about an hour and a half away from us. My mother-in-law (Mémère to the kids...they pronounce it: "mem'-may"), my sister-in-law, and my niece were all part of our excursion. Well, technically, we were part of THEIR excursion. :)
(Because Alee had a little fever, she was very clingy, but she had a few hours of recovery in the middle of the day when she was totally normal for a while!)
I'm fairly certain it was the tylenol, but the promise of ice cream back home was definitely a motivator in the healing process. My grandma says ice cream always makes you feel better.
Friday, we jumped into projects! and Continued until we just about fell over Saturday afternoon!
Friday and Saturday -
Rob and Seth worked on the rest of the ramp project (thanks to our benefactress for funding that!) and Seth (now 12) learned to mow the grass.
Our old mower died since last summer, so when we replaced it, we got self-propelled - he practically chased it compared to his attempt at mowing last summer!
(It's so hot - I just took this picture from inside the house. Please excuse the screen.) :)
I sewed up a projector screen (Kaitlyn's threading the rope through the grommets we - Rob and I - put in the border). I also sewed the fabric for the lightbox Rob and Seth made from PVC - pictures of that later this summer with Seth's next stop motion video.
When we take this outside, we'll be able to use the full screen, but our rooms aren't quite big enough to get the projector/screen distance for full screen size. Still - huge - and awesome!
(Rob's sister's family came over Friday night for our first Big Screen Feature - we watched How to Train your Dragon 2) This is from Saturday night - the kids just watching whatever on it.
Sunday - we just took it easy (well, easy with a day full of meetings...but rest from physical labor).
Monday - besides piano lessons (which take me half the day) and cleaning (which takes the kids half the day), I put the girls' room back together (see progress in above picture). The kids also had another cousin over to play after piano.
Tuesday - we went fabric shopping for curtain fabric.
Carolyn and Natalie's room gets full sun all day and since I have removed the yucky blinds and roller shades since we moved in, I have only added sheers...which do nothing for 90-degree sun coming in all day and nothing for night-time privacy. (They currently dress in the closet.) I need a LOT of fabric to make 2 panels/window (3 windows!)...so we're looking for matching and for deals.
Wednesday - we BIKED to the park (about a mile - 7:30 am...probably already 80 degrees.) It was supposed to get up to 101 yesterday. I forgot to check what it was at 8 am? HOT.
And Seth gathered his stuff to prepare for scout camp next week (when the high one day is supposed to be 105!!)
And we brought home a couple kids from church activities last night for a sleepover - so there are 8 today - actually, 9 kids (I asked one mom to bring over her 6 year old after breakfast so Alee would have a friend). Carolyn will get a sleepover Friday night, so I didn't bring anyone home for her.

Today - I expected it would be a little more chaotic, but they are still here as I type this - the girls crafting with paper and tin cans, watching tv, and playing with the kitchen- the boys (finally pulled away from a screen) downstairs - legos and bikes...probably will end up back in front of a screen.
I haven't gotten as much done since I keep checking on the kids and I did their chores for them this morning, but they have entertained themselves mostly, so to keep myself from trying to clean up behind them all day (I have a habit of doing that when friends come over), I decided to finally finish the menu card box I started forever ago:
I invited over 2 more kids that will be here soon, so I'll probably sit in the room with them while they play to keep a continual eye on them - 11 kids in a house might need more referee time. :)
Tonight, Rob and I are going to the temple and leaving the kids with their aunt and uncle (Bethany/Caleb).
Tomorrow is shopping day - so that's probably all I'll get done - it'll just be a chill day for us when I finish that and preparing for an awesome weekend. Time for another quick kid check...until some day (probably not Tuesday or even Thursday)...next week.
Happy Father's day!
