Spring is slowly coming....

But maybe not quite fast enough for my taste! I'm about to go on strike if it doesn't warm up and stay warm around here!

{Disclaimer...I started this post about 2-3 weeks ago!}

Every day the weather has been nice, the kids have seized the day!

Kaitlyn learned to ride her bike without training wheels this month.

(Natalie started to learn this past weekend [a couple weekends ago], but she takes her learning of new skills slow and steady. Kaitlyn jumps into everything she does full on.)

The day I had to get the van's oil changed plus various other things that were expensive, Alee and I had a little sit in their waiting room. Turns out the fun of the memory game and tablet were no match for the pack of balloons I found fortuitously in my purse! Yea for happy surprises.

Leafer (the turtle, remember?) finally got a decent tank set up. Yes, the men brought in the water hose to fill the tank. That turned out better than expected. :) And the deep water has been appreciated.

I have always liked the idea of celebrating the little unimportant things to make every day fun, but my energy doesn't always keep up with my brain. So, there are no little leprechauns around here playing tricks or well planned preschool activities for Alee to tie the holiday into her learning...but we did a little.

St Patrick's day got a garland made from dollar tree shamrocks, painted nails for the girls (and a green ribbon braided into their hair) and cupcakes for dessert. I did put broccoli in the macaroni and cheese and tried to dye the noodles green. That was not well accepted. :) New idea next year!

Carolyn enjoyed using the cake tips to top (angel food cupcakes) with whipped cream. Her nails match; not even planned (but it looks great in my picture, right?) :)

I've been decorating the mantle each month - it's a lot of fun and simple and the kids like to see it change.
(January = snow and pictures of Rob/twins for birthdays, February = hearts and pictures of me, again birthday)...March? We just jumped straight to April/Easter.
My favorite is the picture in the middle by Simon Dewey called "Why weepest thou".
One day when I have more helpers than messer-uppers and more closet to store a box for each month, I want to do little subtle decorations around the whole (main area of the) house each  month...

Then, with nice enough weather and a flex day (no work) for Rob, we took a trip to the zoo - Alee's favorite style - with her as 'only child'. :) We went through the botanical gardens and along a path through the woods that passed an old destroyed mill by the river. I had never seen it and took way too many pictures.

Alee was fascinated by the rocks
And the leaves (and a snail)
 And those prickly gum balls
 And the moss

The older two participated in a chess tournament at the end of the month. Neither was victorious, but Carolyn enjoyed her day of chess and reading (Harry Potter). She won 1 match - which was an improvement for her and that thrilled her! Seth learned a lesson in good sportsmanship but still was able to claim 3 out of 5 matches.

Seth also learned a little about orienteering at scouts this month.  I wondered if he'd love scouts or if it would be me dragging him along through it. Thankfully, he loves it, although I am still slack about reading through the book with him so we understand the program.

Oh, I was cleaning out a notebook and found this:
Quotes from dinner one night.
"I don't like this supper. Is there any rolls to go with this?" (the answer must have been no) "dangit....Now my bear doesn't like supper."
"Does anybody like corn and peas in their rice? Then you can have mine."
"I like dinner!" (Thank you to one child!)

OK, finishing this post so I can move on to April!....
The last weekend in March Rob's parents came to visit and we went bowling. I think I could put about 3 times as many pictures, but I'll not overload you. Here are a few of just our kids...

Surrounded by grandchildren. Her favorite way to be!

I had to throw in this little victory dance...she looks like a little leprechaun. :)

And then to finish off, Carolyn went to her first ever women's broadcast (of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). Previously, they did a broadcast for young women (12-18) + their mothers and leaders in the spring and a broadcast for the adult women in the fall. But this year, they welcomed all females ages 8 and up to attend. Carolyn was so excited. So, she came along with Bethany and me.

I wondered if the talks would be tailored to meet the attention span/intellect of even the younger ones. It was great. She took notes and came home and called grandmothers and great grandmothers to talk about it over the next few days. It was such a sweet experience to sit and listen to those inspired by God to teach us as women, old, young, and little and to feel the spirit with her. I hope they continue the tradition next year so the twins can join us!

OK, I'll get some april pictures up soon (before spring break, I hope) with news of the month. (And thank goodness the weather is finally deciding to stay spring...I think!)
