January 2013

My post titles are getting more boring by the month, right?

More awards ceremonies for 2nd quarter -
Funny story - Natalie was talking to me about getting her award afterwards and she made a comment that she didn't really like going up in front of all those people for the award. :) She's so shy this year. She's never been very outgoing, but I think she's become more shy since kindergarten began.

Seth's last (3rd) pinewood derby - he did a really good job on designing and carving/cutting and finishing his car, but because of the amount he carved away, it was very light and we didn't know where to add weights that could support them, so it didn't do super well in the races. But he loves to make things, so I think in the end, he wasn't too disappointed in the outcome.

Another Seth moment - he got braces. If I remember, I'll try to post a picture of him each month - his teeth are already moved since this picture and it's only been a few weeks. Wow. (Getting them was not purely a cosmetic decision - but on recommendation from the dentist and then orthodontist - as his overbite made it more likely to fall and have trauma occur - causing a lifetime of dentist problems.)

An added benefit - I can already see his confidence increasing.

Like mother, like son....
I couldn't find my first picture with braces on - so this is after some improvement - that says something, huh? I can't imagine why I don't have many pictures of that period of my life?? :)
I vividly remember this picture - Mom was not thrilled that I had chosen green bands - I was being festive! - it was a nice sea foam green - Easter looking color for the month. How was I to know she was having pictures done soon?? It's hard to see on Seth's, but he chose gold for his bands this time.

We also had some birthdays this month - the twins are 6 and legally allowed to be out of booster seats! (How empty the van looks during the day now.)
The morning routine goes faster now too! The front seat is designated for whoever's day of the week it is (maybe I'll post about that Mom idea later) - the MIDDLE SEAT of the van  - the next best seat! - is up for grabs for the first out to the van. Let me tell you how efficient these two have become in the morning.

As wished for, they got both baby alive dolls (yea! - these drink and wet without batteries!) - I just need to re-try those cloth baby alive diapers - I need a LOT more absorption for the amount of liquid in those little bottles!

And they both got "American Girl Dolls" (actually, Journey brand from Toys R Us - Carolyn and Alee got My Generation dolls from Walmart for their birthdays - Uncle Will sprang for these 18" dolls for our November birthdays and was therefore, 'locked in' to this for the January birthdays. Isn't it nice having an uncle with no children yet?)

Kaitlyn got glasses (minus the lenses) to match her doll and Uncle Will - she wears them ALL the time at home.

And to end with a laugh - letter to David - I'll type it below, but the picture was necessary - we had an FHE (family home evening) about missionary work and preparing to be missionaries and then wrote letters to Uncle David, who's serving a mission right now in Canada.

Carolyn was having a difficult night getting along (what's new?) - so this is her letter - very unlike her for writing, but very much like her for attitude - she'll probably hate I put this up here, but in 10 years, she'll laugh. :)

Dear David,
this is the worst week I've had this year even though it's just Monday. I miss you.
love, Carolyn

Question answered about the glasses. Also, Seth's lucky to get braces so early--I had them in high school. He'll be nice and handsome with straight teeth during those awkward middle school years :)

Did the twins make their own birthday cakes?
