facebook

So...several people have said, "you should get a facebook"...and I thought, oh, that's just something for my very social brother Jacob. I don't have time for another thing. Then, Rob got one (for some insane reason b/c he barely keeps up with his blog)...I think it was for his sister.  So, now he wants me to get one...so he can 'link' to me as his wife. So, I just wasted about 15 minutes looking at pages of people he had as friends (it only lets you look at the full profile of friends...which makes me feel a little better about the idea).

I still don't think I have time for facebook and a blog...and I'm pretty sure it would take me months before I even kept up with it...but in case I change my mind, who's going to teach me how to use it?
Should I add yet another thing to my "computer wasting time agenda"?

Hey Beth! I joined facebook a year ago and about a month ago I stopped my account. I wasted way to much time on the computer! I was seeing what all my old friend were up too! I would check my email then I would check facebook! Anyhow just thought I would put my 2 cents in. I just wasted to much time! Some people don't gone on there as much so that don't waste much time! Oh and Spencer did the same thing, he joined and then he realized how much time he wasted!

I joined facebook just to see what my nieces and nephews are up to...they are all on there. I really don't do much with my account since I have a blog. I just have links to my blog on my facebook page and that's about it. Makes it easy that way. I have enjoyed facebook because I have found so many old friends on there. Since Kaman is not around I spend some time on Sunday nights checking up on everyone and leaving little notes for my nieces and nephews. There's my 2 cents. Like anything else it's just a matter of balancing it all...and sometimes I'm better at it than at other times....

I like Facebook, I'm not on it all the time. Some people (like our single siblings) do all kinds of crazy stuff on it like add tons of videos and notes and stuff, but I basically just have it to look at pictures of family and friends that live far away and don't have a blog and I stalk my younger siblings haha. My mother on the other hand is a 100% facebook stalker and is beyond addicted haha...and she loves it. I say go for it! The good thing about it is that you don't really have to do anything. People can write things to you and you can read them when you want and other than that just get on when you want to. It's not like a major time commitment just to set one up. And sometimes its funny to reconnect with people!
I like facebook myself. It's a great way for me to keep up with friends I'd lost touch with, and it really only takes up five or ten minutes of my day.
I discourage facebook because it is practically another "my space" in disquise. Don't succumb to the this online tidal wave!

I disagree with Jared and say get one! I have connected with old friends from my ward when I was a teenager and even connected with a member in Sweden. It has been great to communicate in swedish again and helped to regain what I had lost! I also love keeping up with all my friends who are on here! It is fun and both my girls are on it and they have good wholesome friends plus all my friends who keep up with them! I say get one...you will enjoy it! But that is my two cents and everyone has an opinion so there you go! For the record, Jeff doesn't have one but he isn't social so he could care less..hahaha!

Bobbbie Boucher's mother says facebook "iz da debil". I have intentionally avoided facebook for that very reason. Medulla Oblongata.
Thanks for the comments. More than likely, I'll sign up for one so old friends can find me, but mostly just use it to link back to my blog (and find old friends who might also have a blog)...but I don't expect to 'get around' to doing that this week...

Well, this is certainly a polarizing question. What a range of opinions.
When I first set up the account, it took some time. You have to find people, which leads you to finding other people. And there are so many features to explore, it does indeed take some serious time.
But once that's all done, it can sit there in cruise control. I really enjoy being able to connect with people I haven't seen in several years.

I never wanted facebook. But Monte has one. This still did not make me want one. So, Monte put a wedding picture up of us and then changed his name on facebook to include mine. So maybe we're broken some kind of "facebook rule" haha, but we're two people with one facebook account. It makes me feel better cause then I know who is saying what to him. :) And we've been adding my friends to it as well. What it comes down to for us, however, is that we don't update, we don't post personal things, we don't join groups or play silly games that would waste time, we just get on maybe once a month to click yes to friend request and answer the occasional message. We use facebook together as an online directory/phonebook of sorts. Though Jared is right...it could definitely be used like a myspace, it can waste time, and it's not private at all. Even if you can't view someone's profile their information gets out there. Once on the web...always on the web. So sign up if you want to contact people or hijack your husband's like I did. But don't get caught up in spending too much time on there. Our stake president warned against that many times back in Utah. Anyhow, if you do join you'll have to look Monte and I up. Just type in our last name and you'll find us. It may take a month for us to respond however. :)

I was beyond AGAINST FACEBOOK and wouldn't let Patti have one because my friends told me President Jensen said not to (false)but finally succombed so I could read the status of my NY neices and nephews but LaNelle is right...I proudly stalk my kids if that's what it is called..but mostly i just look at it on my phone just to see everyone's status and I have reconnected with old friends from Charlotte...like blogs or even the internet itself, it can be misused and the biggest threat is a time waster...but I don't watch TV so who is to say it's worse to wish an old friend good luck on a test or congratulate a new grandma than watch mindless brain rot???? There is my 2 cent worth! (s in cents left out on purpose just to aggravate Pete, the yankee!!)

Isn't your to do list long enough?
Don't over crowd yourself with yet another thing to do.
