Family Zoo Day

Friday night Jacob called us and asked if we wanted to go to the zoo (we had given him some of our free zoo passes a while back but he'd never used them). So, we said, ok. Seth doesn't get to go like he used to being in school, so a saturday zoo trip will be fun. Jacob brought a friend (named Rachel -I have no idea how to spell her last name). And we called Jared and Kristen and invited them too (he never used his free zoo passes either).

So, here are parts of our day:

Carolyn was upset b/c Grammy wasn't going to be there. She was happy to see another girl besides me and Kristen, and told Rachel her life story, as Carolyn does to most new 'friends'.
Jared, who is not the biggest zoo fan, got into the spirit, and acquainted himself with the zoo animals. (Some other nuts climbed into the exhibit with the turtle.)

Carolyn wanted to go home, but though the lights from the skylight in the reptile building was a fun place to sit (of course, it was in the middle of where everyone was trying to walk!)
Kristen got Kaitlyn to say "Bird" (which sounded more like "Bud").
Jacob was fascinated by the 'little baby penguins' you could see through this semi-sphere window set into some rocks at the birdhouse. He showed me (they were cute), and then Carolyn. Carolyn told him they weren't really little - they were big - the curvy window just made them look little. (WOW! I don't remember teaching her that, but she's right. Jacob was disappointed that there weren't really baby penguins, and that he learned yet another something from someone 20 years younger than him.) Here he is showing Jared the "not really little, little penguins".
Seth sat on the rocks to the right to watch the penguins dart back and forth. (The flash would either let me get Seth or the penguins, so we got the penguins and washed out Seth.)
