A Beth Post

So, I have a fascination with bags. I have a list of projects I want to do about a page long (single spaced), and some sort of "bag" is on this list several times. So, I just completed one that I'm proud of (even with it's flaws, which hopefully you can't see in the picture).

Idea: I want a bag that will be the ONLY bag I have to haul in to church on Sunday.

Requirements:
must hold diapers/wipes for two babies (and be able to easily separate these sets of diapers/wipes when the babies are separated....and quickly/easily know whose are whose)

must be able to hold sippy cups, coloring books, relief society notebook, scriptures, lesson manual, maybe a water bottle, extra papers (quickly stuffed in somewhere, like handouts), and have some way to hold my keys, lipgloss, phone (turned off), and pen/pencil without those things falling to the bottom of some deep pocket or so easily at the top that they are messed with by the babies during sacrament meeting...hmmm...is all this possible?
Yes it is! Meet Beth's latest custom bag:

Twin Mother (with lots of books and notebook)'s Church Bag
(Ok, so I don't have my brother's creativity with words!)
Meets requirements:
Side pockets big enough to hold two sippy cups on one side and a water bottle on the other
Front pockets hold diaper pouches (with clear vinyl windows to see the initial appliquéd on the front of each pouch)
Zipper pocket up top to hold my little stuff convenient, but babies' can't get in
Back pocket to hold papers/notes passed out (or for right now a gallon ziplock with a change of clothes for our potty training princess)
Inner space to hold all notebooks, scriptures, etc., with space to spare for a few small toys for the babies.
With diaper pouches sticking out:

Yes, a little loud...I probably should have picked out a quieter fabric for the contrast color...but I am a little loud, and you certainly can't miss us walking in anyways, so it will blend right in with our little zoo.
A shot of the diaper pouch opened:

And Me holding it:

Not my best angle, but I had a 5 year old take the picture! Just look at the bag!
My favorite parts: the zipper pocket (which was really easy) and the ribbon on the handles
My most obvious flaw: the satin stitch around the initials...didn't realize that little curvy letters had such LITTLE CURVES (when I put it that way, it sounds so obvious)...
Anyways, enough about my accomplishment for the week...maybe I'll post a picture of one of my kids being cute or destructive later...

That is great! I love it. I am so glad you got some of your Mother's creativity! It just seems to get better by the generation. (I can' wait to get creative in my new house.) I like the bright colors. I can always find the one you made me b/c it stands out, so that will be a good thing for you as you try to gather 4 kids and all your stuff. I always look forward to your next project. You should be very proud of yourself.
Love Mom
After I wasted the fabric (by not laying out the patter pieces right) for the first skort I tried to make as a teen, I never wanted to learn to sew again...do you remember that?
But I love it now...and my poor scrapbooks are collecting dust lately!

So...even though I'm not a mother of twins, I would love it if you could make up a pattern of sort for this bag and email it to me.

Okay...I LOVE all kinds of bags and am totally impressed with this one! I am looking (without success) for a beach bag like your mom has but with a couple of adjustments...I will have to commission you to make me one! I'll call you....

Ok Beth...I know you have no time but you SERIOUSLY should start an internet business...I have about a dozen bags and I keep switching and leaving stuff and losing it...You could make akilling just on Church bags but a lot of old women like me going back to school would love a bag...I think you are a genious but that's not really a news flash...we have some exceptionally talented and creative kids in this family!!!
I actually am considering making things (esp. bags) to sell...but not now. I've thought about sewing things and then selling them before, but I think I'll wait until all the kids are a little older and I don't have so many projects for my own family!
