10 years ago:
I was 16, soon to go on my first date (which my mom kept reminding me to be nice on. no not stay pure - she knew that wasn't a problem; she just didn't want me to have an attitude!).
If you want to know precisely, I went and got my journal.
On 3/19/1998:
  • I tried (note TRIED) to cook hamburgers that night (mom tried to recook them when she got home since they weren't done but they burned).
  • My comprehensive health class watched a video on birth (which I closed my eyes for b/c I didn't want to see it - and still don't - women who want a mirror during birthing are NUTS).
  • And then in my journal I went on a tirade about how I didn't know how I'd be able to get married or live on my own b/c I couldn't cook, clean well, sew, even cut out a pattern (I had recently screwed even that part up), and the thought of birth made me sick (I said in my journal I'd rather adopt)....
boy have I come a long way! (I can do all of those things now pretty well...well, the last one I need an epidural to do!)

5 things on my to do list today:

  1. Re-sew the sleeves on the three dresses mom and I smocked so they're short-sleeved for spring
  2. Look up how to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, and strawberries (growing things is still on my "I can't do this" list!)
  3. Mop the Kitchen
  4. Re-organize the relief society notebook I just got
  5. Cut out the pieces for a tote bag for myself (to hold extra scrapbook paper)

What I would do if I suddenly became a millionaire:
(of course, tithe it first...then...)
  • Pay off all debt
  • buy Rob a completely functional vehicle
  • build a house with some land, a fence, and at least 2 more rooms than what we have now (and lots of storage)
  • buy ALL the food storage I need for a year
  • buy both of our parents houses that are perfect for them wherever they want to live,
  • put away money for all my kids' colleges/missions/marriages (which we don't even plan on saving for now)
  • help the rest of the family with whatever they want and can't afford
  • (and if there's any left, let Rob work fewer hours so he can use the 'extra' time to learn woodworking)

three of my bad habits:

  1. poor time management (probably like now)
  2. talking too much (and about people sometimes)
  3. lack of patience (the kids are helping with this one)

5 places I have lived:

1. Hartsville, SC
2. Rolesville, NC
3-5. Columbia, SC (West Columbia, Columbia near Irmo, Northeast Columbia)

5 jobs I have had (other than my current of stay-at-home and do "nothing"):

  1. Tutor
  2. Babysitter
  3. Housecleaner (that lasted all of a few months)
  4. Math Lab worker (USC)
  5. Clerical worker (temp) at health insurance company
Then I had kids and quit working...

5 things people don't know about me:

  1. I wrote in my journal (nearly) every day as a teenager.
  2. I can sing my ABC's backwards (or say them backwards super fast).
  3. I have a policy that I will never dye my hair (and I have never - even when I wished I had red hair as a teen).
  4. I don't really like diamonds (I only want my engagement ring to be diamond so people can see I have the common rings on the right finger and I AM married)
  5. I am almost obsessive about making lists.
What I will be doing in 10 years:
Not having babies anymore! :)
Hmm, at 36, Seth will be 15 (Carolyn 13, the twins 11, and there may be more, but they'd be 8 or younger).
I will probably be spending a lot of time in the van driving all over the place, hopefully still enjoying the same hobbies, and worrying about how to deal with teenagers instead of worrying about potty training (which will probably seem like a cake walk compared with teenagers).
I don't know what I will be doing really...probably the same things, but more of them and busyier.

OK - for those who read this and haven't been tagged (which is probably few), you are now tagged!

Stay firm about dying your hair...at least until you really do get old and have nasty gray hair...then please dye it so your Mama won't go insane!!!! I'm about ready to dye mine blonde for the summer..my girls and I think its like changing shirts...at least we are lucky enough to have gobs and gobs of hair so it doesn't matter if half falls out!!!
